We are planning an all-inclusive trip to Japan, during their cherry blossom season.

As usual, it will be a small group learning, 12 nights with maximum 16-20 Doctors plus partners – singles welcome, subject to availability and a single supplement applies. Single travellers can choose to share a twin room with another appropriately matched traveller.

Our trip commences in Tokyo on 13th March and we travel to Hakone, Kyoto, Kanazawa, Shirakawago, and conclude in Tokyo on 25th March.

As usual, we will apply for RACGP small group learning activity. Subjects will be decided by the interest of individual GP participants and other Specialists will be doing presentations as per their college guidelines.

All participants will be provided with certificates of attendance, and submission for RACGP activities will be forwarded directly to the College.

Comfort of our participants was a major consideration. As such, 4-star and 5-star accommodation with private ensuites, most meals, entrance to all attractions, all trip transfers (airport excluded) – even luggage handling for the Shinkansen leg – are provided for the whole duration of our tour. TOUR OVERVIEW

This tour is an exhilarating journey through Japan’s history and traditions, from the refined geisha houses of Kyoto to Tokyo’s exuberant shopping districts. Tour the ancient temples of Kyoto, visit the biggest original castle in Japan at Himeji, and experience a Geisha/Maiko dinner.

It’s not all temples and tradition, however, and we’ll make sure you’re well-acquainted with modern Japan – from a tour of Tokyo’s fashionable districts with its many architecturally interesting buildings to Kanazawa’s outstanding 21st Century Art Museum.

One of the great features of this tour is the balance of free time and evening entertainment, and you’ll try a huge range of cuisines in all sorts of settings – including a Kobe Beef dinner, sushi making, and Geisha/Maiko experience.

Your trip to Japan is all about comfort and peace of mind, but don’t let that fool you – this is all-inclusive as you’ve never seen it before: full-on, fast-paced, and packed full of action.

DAILY ITINERARY

Day 1 Villa Fontaine Grand Tokyo Ariake
Tokyo (Dinner)

Upon arrival in Tokyo, please make your own way to the hotel for self-check-in. Enjoy your welcome dinner at the hotel with your fellow travel companions – this is an opportunity to meet our guide for the trip, and set out a plan for the CMA sessions.

Today begins with a visit to Odaiba, an artificial island in Tokyo Bay renowned for its futuristic architecture, waterfront promenades, and entertainment complexes. Here, travellers can explore iconic landmarks such as the Rainbow Bridge.

Following this, participants will engage in a hands-on sushi-making experience, immersing in the art of Japanese cuisine under the guidance of expert sushi chefs.

Next, the journey continues to Asakusa, home to the historic Senso-ji Temple, Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple, and the vibrant Nakamise shopping street lined with traditional stalls selling souvenirs and street food delicacies. Visitors can soak in the rich cultural atmosphere, marvel at the stunning architecture, and savour the flavours of authentic Japanese street food, creating unforgettable memories of Tokyo’s diverse and dynamic culture.

Begin your day by delving into the vibrant atmosphere of Tsukiji Market, where you can immerse yourself in the bustling energy and sample fresh seafood delights.

After exploring the market, make your way to the iconic Tokyo Tower to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the cityscape from its observation decks. Following your visit to Tokyo Tower, head to the serene Nijubashi Bridge near the Imperial Palace, enjoying the serene surroundings.

Then, dive into the vibrant energy of Shibuya, experiencing the famous crossing and exploring its myriad shops and entertainment options. Finally, indulge in a traditional Chanko Nabe dinner, savouring the hearty flavours of this sumo wrestler’s dish, rounding off a day packed with unforgettable sights, sounds, and tastes in Tokyo.

Day 4 Hotel Kajikaso
Tokyo Hakone (Breakfast, Dinner)

Embark on a journey starting with a cruise on Lake Ashi, where you’ll glide across the tranquil waters surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of Hakone. Ascend via Ropeway to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, with glimpses of Mount Fuji on clear days adding to the awe-inspiring scenery.

Then, visit The Hakone Open-Air Museum, where sculptures harmonize with nature in an open-air gallery setting. Explore the expansive grounds, marvelling at the diverse collection of contemporary and traditional artworks.

As the day ends, enjoy a dinner at a hotel. Taste delicious food inspired by Japanese and international flavours, making your day in Hakone even more special.

Day 5 Hotel Kajikaso

Today, enjoy the adventure ascending to the Fuji 5th Station, the starting point for many climbers aiming to conquer the majestic Mount Fuji. Situated at an elevation of 2,300 metres, visitors can marvel at panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape, soak in the pristine mountain air, and capture stunning photographs against the backdrop of Mount Fuji’s snow-capped peak.

Then, visit Oshino Hakkai, a picturesque village renowned for its crystal-clear ponds fed by melted snow from Mount Fuji. Travellers can wander through the tranquil countryside and admire the traditional thatched-roof houses.

Day 6 Kyoto Tokyu Hotel

Embark on the journey from Hakone to the Fuji World Heritage Museum, where travellers will delve into the rich cultural and natural history of Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji. Immerse yourself in interactive exhibits showcasing the geological significance, artistic depictions, and spiritual reverence surrounding this majestic peak.

After exploring the museum’s treasures, the adventure continues as we journey to the historic city of Kyoto, renowned for its timeless beauty, traditional architecture, and vibrant cultural heritage.

Tonight, enjoy a Kobe beef dinner, savouring the unparalleled melt-in-your-mouth texture and exquisite flavour of this world-renowned delicacy.

Day 7 Kyoto Tokyu Hotel

Starting with a visit to the scenic district of Arashiyama. Traverse the iconic Togetsukyo Bridge, meander through the tranquil bamboo groves, and admire the exquisite beauty of the Tenryu-ji Temple and its serene garden.

Next, behold the resplendent splendour of Kinkakuji, the famed Golden Pavilion, with its shimmering golden façade reflecting in the surrounding pond, creating a mesmerizing sight.

Then, venture to the vibrant vermillion gates of Fushimi Inari Shrine, where thousands of torii gates lead to the sacred Mount Inari, offering breathtaking views of Kyoto city below.

Conclude the day with a captivating performance of Maiko dance, accompanied by a sumptuous traditional dinner, immersing yourself in the refined elegance and cultural richness of Kyoto’s geisha heritage.

Day 8 Kyoto Tokyu Hotel

Embark on a delightful excursion through the cultural and culinary delights of Uji and Himeji. Begin your day by immersing yourself in the rich history of Uji, renowned for its esteemed tea culture, savouring the delicate flavours of freshly brewed Uji tea.

Then, enjoy a bento lunch featuring an array of carefully crafted seasonal dishes showcasing the fresh ingredients of the region.

After enjoying lunch, we will embark on a journey to visit the majestic Himeji Castle. This iconic landmark, renowned for its stunning architecture and rich history, stands as a testament to Japan’s cultural heritage.

Day 9 Hotel Kanazawa
Kyoto Kanazawa (Breakfast, Dinner)

Embark on a journey from Kyoto to Kanazawa, with a captivating stop en route at Echizen Washi Village. Discover the intricate process of crafting washi paper, passed down through generations, as skilled artisans demonstrate their expertise. Engage in hands-on activities, allowing you to create your own unique paper souvenirs and gain insights into the cultural significance of washi in Japanese heritage. This visit promises to be a memorable interlude before continuing your travels to Kanazawa, where further cultural treasures and discoveries await in this historic city renowned for its traditional arts and crafts.

Day 10 Hotel Kanazawa

Today, begin with a visit to Omicho Market, a bustling hub of local flavours and fresh produce. Immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of this historic market.

Next, journey to the sublime beauty of Kenrokuen Garden, one of Japan’s most renowned landscape gardens, where meticulously manicured landscapes, tranquil ponds, and picturesque teahouses await your discovery.

Conclude your day with a visit to Higashi Chaya, a charming geisha district characterised by beautifully preserved wooden teahouses. Step back in time as you wander through the narrow streets lined with traditional buildings.

Day 11 Hotel Kanazawa
Kanazawa Shirakawago Kanazawa (Breakfast, Dinner)

Please pack your luggage the night before, as your baggage will be sent to Tokyo this morning.

Embark on a journey from Kanazawa to the charming village of Shirakawa-go, nestled amidst the majestic landscapes of the Japanese Alps. Marvel at the stunning vistas as you traverse through winding mountain roads, arriving at Shirakawago, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its traditional Gassho-zukuri farmhouses with steep thatched roofs. Exploring its narrow streets lined with quaint wooden houses and lush greenery.

After a day of exploration, return to Kanazawa in the evening to indulge in a memorable farewell dinner. Gather with fellow travellers to reflect on the highlights of your journey while savouring exquisite cuisine crafted from the freshest local ingredients.

Day 12 Imperial Hotel Tokyo
Kanazawa Tokyo (Breakfast)

After enjoying breakfast, embark on a swift and comfortable bullet train journey from Kanazawa to Tokyo.

Upon arrival, the remainder of the day is yours to explore at your own pace and leisure.

Day 13 Tokyo (Breakfast)

Make your own way to the airport for your homebound flights.

PRICING

The cost for our tour in March 2025 is AUD$10,986 per person twin share.

Solo travellers can choose to share with another same sex participant.

If not sharing a room, a single supplement of AUD$2,300 per person applies to solo travellers only, with a limited number available.

We require a 40% deposit plus registration fees to confirm your spot on our trip.
