We have the opportunity to secure an excellent deal for a Doctors CME course on a luxury ship, on the Amazon River.

The trip is planned for 4-11 October 2025 which is during Amazon’s low-water season, the prime time for good weather and the highest chance of wildlife spotting.

As usual, it will be a small group learning, 8 nights with maximum 36 Doctors and partners – singles welcome, subject to availability and willing to share a twin cabin with another appropriately matched traveller. Considering the size of the vessel and availability of multiple public spaces, as well as some interconnecting rooms on this tour, we have a limited availability (first come first served) for families travelling with children. Due to activities involved, an age limit applies: 10 years +.

As usual, we will apply for RACGP small group learning activity. Subjects will be decided by the interest of individual GP participants and other Specialists will be doing presentations as per their college guidelines.

All participants will be provided with certificates of attendance, and submission for RACGP activities will be forwarded directly to the College.

TOUR OVERVIEW

Enjoy eight days and seven nights to experience the heart of the Amazon and delve into the immense diversity of the Peruvian jungle where you will discover an impressive flora and fauna.

You will share experiences with native communities, learn about Amazonian cultures and taste the most exotic flavors. The Pacaya Samiria Reserve is known as “the jungle of mirrors”, and is the setting for a journey into the depths of nature.

Walks in the jungle, fishing, bird watching, the possibility of watching pink and gray dolphins up close, visiting local communities and night excursions are some of the activities that will take you to know and fall in love with the incredible Amazon – all whilst onboard a luxurious vessel with comfortable air conditioned suites, with your own private ensuite and delicious cuisine.

DAILY ITINERARY

We recommend you arrive in Iquitos the day before the commencement of the tour (3-4 October 2025).

For your convenience, one night at the Double Tree Hilton is included in the price of the tour.

Day 1 | 4th October 2025
Iquitos > Nauta > Marañon River > Nauta Caño

Transfer via private vehicle to Nauta port for boarding.

The cruise staff will accompany you to your suite specially equipped with comfortable beds, pure Peruvian pima cotton sheets, cotton bathrobes, air conditioning, private bathroom with shower and amenities.

Before sailing, the bartender will serve you a cocktail prepared with fruits from the region and Pisco, the most popular national liquor in Peru. Do not miss the opportunity to savour it while enjoying a full view of the river from the observation deck, or a panoramic view in the indoor or outdoor lounge.

Once we start sailing the naturalist guides will present an overview of the trip program, such as activities, routes, information on wildlife and vegetation, the geographical and historical background, as well as other useful details. If you have any doubts or questions, our guides are always very happy to assist you.

After the welcome briefing we will enjoy delicious appetisers and have time to rest before the next outing on skiffs to Nauta Caño, where we will enjoy a night excursion on skiffs in search of alligators, tarantulas, frogs and other species that appear when the sun goes down.

Return to the ship and dinner on board. Begin your trip with a special Peruvian dinner with an Amazonian influence. It is a varied menu that includes a vegetarian option. Please let us know of any special dietary requirements in advance.

Day 2 | 5th October 2025
Marañón River > Yanayacu de Pucate > San Regis

Early in the morning, make your way to the third deck of the ship to observe the transit of migratory birds.

Afterwards, we will start our excursion by boat to the Yanayacu de Pucate area, where we will appreciate one of the best preserved and protected areas of the Pacaya Samiria reserve. Moreover, we will enjoy a special breakfast in the middle of nature.

Before returning to the ship, those who wish can take a kayak ride. Others might choose to swim in the refreshing black waters of the river.

Back on the boat, our bartender awaits you with a Peruvian cocktail demonstration, after that enjoy lunch. Followed from some time to rest, the guides will give us a talk on Amazonian philosophy.

In the afternoon, we will visit the native community of San Regis, where we will learn about their way of life and traditions. We will also learn about ancestral traditions from the local shaman. Our guides will act as interpreters during this experience, in which you will have the opportunity to ask questions about spiritual connections and the shaman’s abilities to heal the soul.

After living this experience, we will continue with the ceremony of planting a tree as a positive contribution to the environment. Moreover, there will be opportunity to appreciate how the women of the community exhibit in a small craft market, pieces and objects made with their own hands.

Back on the ship you will have time to rest and relax with live music while we make time before dinner.

Day 3 | 6th October 2025
Marañon River – Amazonian Natural Park – Nahuapa River

After breakfast we will start with a walk through the jungle, followed by a canopy walk, which will allow us to admire the richness of the jungle from the top of the trees.

At noon, we will return to the ship for lunch. It is important that you are present at the talk about the animals in the area that are in danger of extinction. In the afternoon, we will begin our exploration by boat on the Nahuapa River. There you will experience fishing for the famous piranhas, using local equipment and techniques.

Before returning to our boat, we will make a night excursion in search of alligators, tarantulas, frogs and other nocturnal species.

Return to our boat, live music and dinner.

Day 4 | 7th October 2025
Marañon River > Casual > Amazon River

After breakfast, we will enjoy a walk in Casual, in search of wildlife, such as poisonous frogs and other exotic species. In this area we will see the well-known giant trees called Avatar and the “Victoria Amazonica” also known as Victoria Regia or water lilies, the largest aquatic plant on the planet. There you will also have the opportunity to purchase local handicrafts made by local women artisans.

Before noon you will return to the ship where there will be a cooking demonstration by the executive chef.

After lunch, do not miss the talk about the origin of the Amazon, and then start an excursion to the confluence of the Ucayali and Marañón rivers, the place where these two rivers join, also known as the origin of the Amazon River. This area is very popular for watching the curious pink river dolphins.

Return to the ship and have some free time until dinner.

Day 5 | 8th October 2025
Marañon River > Nauta > Florida Common Reserve > Pahuashiro

Before breakfast we will visit Nauta, the second most important city in the region. Upon arrival, we will take a motocar tour to the local market where we will learn first-hand what the commercial life of the city is like.

Return to our boat for breakfast. After breakfast, we will be ready to start a new excursion, we will take a walk in the Florida common reserve, in search of wildlife such as: frogs, birds and other exotic species. In this area we will see the well-known select trees called mahogany.

At noon, we will offer lunch and then you will have time to rest and restore some energy for the activity of the afternoon, a boat excursion to explore the Pahuachiro area and its wildlife.

Back on our boat, enjoy the wonderful light and the incomparable colours that unfold in the sky of these latitudes during sunset.

Day 6 | 9th October 2025
Amazon River > San Joaquin de Omaguas > Yarapa River > Ucayali River

At dawn, before breakfast, we will go out by boat to explore the Amazon River, where we will observe the daily activities that each community carries out on the banks of the river.

Back on the ship you can enjoy our buffet breakfast, which offers a daily selection of traditional dishes, Peruvian specialties, freshly baked homemade products and a variety of freshly prepared juices. After breakfast we will start a boat excursion to explore the Yarapa black water river in search of wildlife.

Return to the cruise and enjoy lunch on board. Before the activity in the afternoon, the guides will give a talk about the local culture.

In the afternoon, we will visit the community of Paranapura, where we will appreciate how they live and learn about their customs, always accompanied by our guides, who will act as interpreters for us.

Towards sunset, we will go in search of animals that can only be seen when the sun goes down: alligators, bats, frogs, tarantulas and other species that populate our biodiverse jungle.

Before dinner, you can enjoy live music by the band on board, which will play a varied repertoire of Amazonian, national and international music.

Day 7 | 10th October 2025
Yarapa on Ucayali River (Black Water) > Yucuruchi > Amazon River (Origin)

Before breakfast, we will start an excursion by boat, but this time on the Yarapa River, in search of new imposing landscapes and more emblematic species of the Amazon.

Return to our boat for breakfast. After breakfast, we will start a walk in Yucuruchi, the area of the Ucayali River, located in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, where numerous species of native animals will be sighted.

Return to the ship. At noon we will offer lunch and then you will have time to rest before the afternoon outing, a boat trip on the Amazon River, in search of the curious pink dolphins and other species. Before returning to the ship, appreciate the breathtaking colours of the Amazonian sunset.

Back on the ship, we will have time to rest and relax with live music while we make time before the presentation of the crew and farewell dinner.

Day 8 | 11th October 2025
Disembarkation in Nauta Port

After breakfast, we will proceed to disembark. On your way to the airport, visit Amazon Forever Bio Park, also known as Manatees Rescue Center, where biologists and volunteers care for manatees, an endangered species. Learn how manatees are treated and prepared for their return to their natural habitat. Likewise, other animals are also rescued, treated and reinserted in their natural habitat.

Jungle Experiences actively collaborates with this dedicated organisation and think tank. We invite you to do so as well and help this meaningful cause.

Transfer to the airport.


INCLUSIONS

Included:

  • 1-night accommodation Hotel – Double Tree Hilton hotel, Iquitos City
  • 8 days and 7 nights cruise.
  • All meals on board the vessel.
  • All excursions and equipment.
  • Transfers from the hotel in Iquitos to the ship on the first day.
  • Entry fee to The Pacaya-Samaria National Reserve.
  • Sodas, natural juices, coffee, tea, water, local beer, house wines and pisco cocktails are included at lunch and dinner. Premium bar with additional cost.

NOT Included:

  • Domestic flights.
  • Cost of medical emergencies (including emergency evacuation).
  • Tipping etiquette. On board our cruise, we recommend a tip amount of USD$25 to USD$30 per passenger per night for the crew (which will be divided among all crew members) and a tip amount of USD$7 to USD$10 per passenger per night for the guides. Tipping amount is not included in the cost of the tour.
  • Any additional transportation services.
  • Any additional bar consumption.
  • Any extra nights at the hotel in Iquitos.

Notes:

  • The proposed itineraries and programs may vary depending on the weather, the river’s water level, the migratory cycles of the animals and time changes in recommended flights.
  • Local community visits: the visits will depend on the availability of its inhabitants, to avoid the negative effects of the activity on the identity of cultures and protect the environment.
  • Excursions: before each outing, we will be offered waterproof rubber boots for our comfort and convenience. After each departure, we return to the staff for cleaning. They also offer waterproof rain ponchos.
  • Kayaks: ask your naturalist guide about kayak rides, which will depend on the weather conditions on the days of your trip. You are welcome to sign up for kayak tours at your own risk. These rides take place in calm waters where you can paddle in a relaxed way. Our kayaks are ideal for two passengers.
  • Fishing: Our fishing policy is based on catch and release.

The cost for our tour is:

  • AUD$7,960 per person twin share, for a lower deck suite:

  • AUD$8,600 per person twin share, for an upper deck suite with a balcony:

  • AUD$9,700 per person twin share, for a master suite (SOLD OUT):

Solo travellers can choose to share with another same sex participant, with no surcharge.

All cabins can be configured with twin beds or a king-sized bed. Some suites are interconnecting, making it convenient for close friends or family members.

We require a 40% deposit plus registration fees to confirm your spot on our trip.
